Fly By

I'm doing a quick fly-by as I must get back to knitting my Ravelympics event cardi. I'm over halfway there, but am not sure how much time I'll have this weekend to finish up as it's my anniversary (and Dental Midwinter meeting) and the Cute Guy and I are heading to Chicago, so I've got to get cracking on it.

I admit, I probably could have achieved a lot more if it weren't for all of the reading I've been doing. Denise recommended The Help, which had been on my list for a while, so with her suggestion I downloaded it to the Kindle and was instantly hooked. I highly recommend it!

Not sure what's next on the reading list, but I have downloaded a few samples to try out including some of the following: The Yellow House by Patricia Falvey; The Postmistress by Sarah Blake; A Reliable Wife by Robert Goolrick; The Little Giant of Aberdeen County by Tiffany Baker; House on Tradd Street by Karen White; and Sweetness at the Bottom of the Pie by Alan Bradley.

Anyone read any of these and have some reviews? or other suggestions.

Recommendation: Get an Ipod and an Audible.com account. I listened to The Help last year and loved it. Since the Ravelympics started I've listened to River God by Wilbur Smith - fabulous!, One Shot by Lee Child - ok, North and South by Elizabeth Gaskell - notably her best work, in the vein of Jane Austen, and Baldacci's Camel Club. Currently I'm halfway through The Face Changers by Thomas Perry.

Let me know what you think of The Reliable Wife. I listened to that several months ago, and am on the fence about it. I'm usually able to suspend the disbelief long enough to really get into almost any story - but parts of that book really stretched credibility. You'll know why.
Are you a member of GoodReads?

Check out my progress on Rav of my Aurora 8 Nautical sweater. I'm loving the stitch pattern. Very easily memorized and great looking. But it's clear to me now that I won't finish it by Sunday night. Jae and her hubby Gary were here over the weekend to pick up the loom and a trunkfull of my yarn to store, and I got only 2 rows knit over the weekend.
Good luck on finishing - want to see pictures!

Haven't read any of those, but I will be reading The Help later this year with my book club. We are reading the Guernsey Lit & Potato Peel Society right now and it's slow getting in to for me, I've heard it's really good, so I'm hoping it gets better. You've got me wondering about a Kindle now!
Happy Anniversary :)

Sooo happy you're enjoying The Help. I'm currently reading Snow Flower and the Secret Fan. Great!!!! And I do agree with Marjorie. My Ipod and Audible.com are my two best friends. I also get books on CD from the library, download them to my computer then up the Ipod. No bookmarks, and sometimes a bit tedious to transfer but it's free. Keep Knitting!!! I know you can do. Don't even take the minute to approve this message, just keep knitting. And have an awesome weekend with your honey!!
