Decisions, Decisions

I've been trying to decide on buying a new sewing machine. I won't even go into details on my present one - let's just say old, poor quality, but can stitch a straight line, but tension is poor.

I'm thinking of buying the Viking Sapphire 830.

Any thoughts???????

What do you have for a machine that you love??

Share with me, please.

I love my Bernina. I've had it for about 13 years and it still tops most in my book. Very durable, great stitches, great tension, etc. Dependable!!!! It was top of the line at the time (I think a model 1250).

I'm a Bernina girl from way back, and If I were purchasing a machine right now for one of the girls, I'd be picking up one of the 230's or a 240 if I had the extra bucks. It's a 3/4 size machine, so it's lightweight, will sew pretty much anything (unless you're planning on sewing boat canvas covers) and has the features I deem necessary. I would not buy the 220 as it has the snap on feet, not the trademark Bernina feet, and it doesnt' have the buttonhole. (Doesn't have some other features either).
In fact, when I helped my mom to choose a machine about 5 years ago, she ended up with a 135 (predecessor to the 230, same machine, different color buttons and different number).

If a Bernina isn't in the budget for a sewing machine, then I'd look at the Janome Gem.

Bernina or a Janome Gem, absolutely.

I've got my Hobby Pfaff, believe it or not. That thing is a workhorse and what was most important when I picked it up, lo those many years ago, was that it was portable. The tension is peculiar but I seem to do weird things to tension in all machines.
